The Yoga of Food

The Yoga of Food

Wellness from the Inside Out

By Melissa Garbau, PhD

If you have issues regulating food and appetite and are interested in yoga philosophy, then this book is for you. You will learn about common yogic concepts such as ahimsa (non violence), tapas (discipline) as well as the theory of the koshas, which refer to the layers of flesh, energy and mind that comprise our being. Using my own experience with food and energy to illustrate these concepts, as well as my clinical experience with clients, this book affords you an opportunity to take a deeper look at how your struggles with food manifest deeper struggles related to what it means to be human.

Praise for Melissa Grabau's The Yoga of Food

This book takes a different approach than any other I have read on dieting or weight loss or healthy eating. It incorporates ways of each but gets deep down to the root of what is causing you personally to overeat/undereat or generally not care for your self & body. I’m only 2/3 of the way in but I look forward to the change it brings in me. I’ve already started looking at things in different, more healthy ways and have shared this book’s ideas with many others. It’s inspiring author comes from a very real place as she has been through the journey herself and has an approach that is very personable as opposed to institutional or pushy. She teaches you appreciate your Self and to nourish your Self instead of denying yourself the opportunity to be healthy. I would recommend it to anyone who struggles with their weight (whether over or under).

A deft intertwining of Yogic philosophy, psychological insight and personal experience. Aimed at folks, particularly women, who have issues with food, viz compulsive overeating leading to overweight and debilitating body image. Perceptive analysis as well as a structured approach to getting back into control, all placed within a context of deep understanding and gentleness.

Insightful and useful. Clarity plus beautiful writing.
